Ham Radio Exams

FCC encourages new radio operator applicants to register in CORES

If are not  currently registered with the FCC and plan on applying to become an FCC licensed Amateur Radio Operator, please review this information prior to attending an exam session.

New radio operator applicants are encouraged to create a FCC user profile, as well as, a FCC Registration Number (FRN) before taking the first license examination.  This process will create a new FCC CORES account and generate a FCC Registration Number (FRN) to be used in place of your Social Security number on Form 605.  The FCC created a video tutorial demonstrating this process, which you can view at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7a4doKEPN5M   Note that an email address and phone number for contacting FCC ULS Support is provided near the end of this video.

Go to https://apps.fcc.gov/cores/userLogin.do then click on the Register link at the top of the page to begin the CORES registration process in the CORES system, after which you will be able to register for an FRN number.  If you have any questions about the registration process, click on the link to the CORES help videos.

If you do not have an FCC FRN number we strongly encourage you to register in CORES and obtain an FRN number prior to attending an exam session.

Existing Amateur Radio License Holders Should Register in CORES
If you are a current FCC licensed Amateur Radio Operator, we strongly encourage you to register in CORES.  After you register and create your account in CORES you can link your existing FRN number (available on your Amateur Radio license) to your new FCC CORES account.
